It is an 18th century crewelwork embroidery, wool on linen, which I believe was originally a purse. (At the end of photos is a photo of a 1986 page from Maine Antiques Digest documenting a similar crewelwork purse believed to have been owned by John Richardson of Townsend MA sold along with a small watercolor of a house for
