Whether these were paid out from storage in the Philadelphia Mint, or whether they came from the Treasury Building in Washington, D. C., is not known. In The Numismatist, September 1953, Philip Maul advertised roll quantities of this issue for sale. Quite probably, other dealers had modest quantities as well. At the time there was virtually no demand for
